RAILWAY BUDGET 2012 -2013

Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi presented the annual Railway budget for the final year 2012-13 in parliament giving importance to passenger safety security and amenties.

                                              HIGHILIGHTS

• Express train fare up by 5 paise per km, 10 paise per km for Ac 3tier, 15 paise per km for Ac2-tier, 30 paise per km for AC first class.
• No steep increase in passenger fares: 2paise per km for suburban trains; 3 paise per km for mail and express trains.
• Independent tariff authority suggested; needs serious dabate; experts panel established decisison after debate in parliment.
• GRP/RPF personnel deployed on 3500 trains.
• Free travel by Rajdhani express for Arjuna awardees.
• Targeting freight carraige of 1,025 million tonnes to bring in Rs 89,339 crores; passenger earning estimate at Rs 36,073 crores; gross recipts estimates at Rs 1.32 lakh crores.
